Take a bite out of crime
It’s not usually a problem for most aquaculture operations, but shark attacks make Caribbean fish farming a challenge.
The Cape Eleuthera Institute needed protection for its cobia operations in the Bahamas, and the result was a unique system from Dyneema and Net Systems that – based on the graphic video the company showed – can fend off a nasty attack.
Ken Robinson, who helped create the system with colleague Koji Tamora in 2009, said tests with bull sharks up to 11 feet showed promise for keeping crops safe.
